IPL : The Indian Premier League 2025 is approaching its finale, and this season has been full of exciting moments. Here are some highlights from this thrilling campaign
SRH’s breakthrough win in Chennai
After five unsuccessful attempts, Sunrisers Hyderabad finally secured a victory against Chennai Super Kings on their home turf. Harshal Patel’s impressive 4/28 was key to SRH’s historic win.
MS Dhoni’s consistent presence
MS Dhoni has batted in all 13 matches played by Chennai Super Kings this season. He also appeared in every game (17 matches) for CSK during the 2015 season when he was the Indian captain.
Third season with three washouts
The 2025 season saw three matches abandoned due to rain, matching the number of washouts in 2015 and 2024. Kolkata Knight Riders faced two washouts again, just like last year.
Delhi Capitals miss playoffs despite strong start
Delhi Capitals became the first team to fail to reach the playoffs after winning their opening four games of the season.
Rise of left-handed stars
Left-handed batsmen are relatively rare in cricket, and in 2008 and 2024, four centuries each were scored by them—the highest in a season. This year, they surpassed that feat.
Ishan Kishan (SRH), Priyansh Arya (PBKS), Abhishek Sharma (SRH), Vaibhav Suryavanshi (RR), and Sai Sudharsan (GT) each scored centuries, making their mark in IPL history.
Gujarat Titans’ Batting Power
Gujarat Titans have scored 200 or more runs in seven matches this season, the highest by any team in a single IPL season. Their big scores include: 232/5 against PBKS, 217/6 and 209/4 versus RR, 204/3 and 205/0 against DC, 224/6 versus SRH, and 202/9 against LSG.
Virat Kohli’s Steady Performance
Virat Kohli has amassed 505 runs in 11 innings during IPL 2025, marking the eighth time he has crossed the 500-run mark in a season. His best remains 973 runs in 2016, the highest-ever runs scored in a single IPL season.
KL Rahul and David Warner have each scored 500-plus runs in seven different seasons.
Top Scorers in IPL 2025
Nine batsmen have surpassed 500 runs this season: Sai Sudharsan (638), Shubman Gill (636), Suryakumar Yadav (583), Mitchell Marsh (560), Yashasvi Jaiswal (559), Jos Buttler (533), Nicholas Pooran (511), Virat Kohli (505), and KL Rahul (504). Players like Prabhsimran Singh (458), Aiden Markram (445), and Shreyas Iyer (435) are closing in on the milestone.
In comparison, eight batsmen crossed 500 runs in both IPL 2018 and IPL 2023. Meanwhile, only Matthew Hayden (2009) and David Warner (2017) managed this feat individually in their respective seasons.
