Supreme Court questions Mohammed Shami’s ex-wife Hasin Jahan in alimony case, asking if Rs 4 lakh per month is not enough. Notices issued to Shami and West Bengal government; next hearing in Dec 2025.
The Supreme Court of India has issued notices to star India pacer Mohammed Shami and the West Bengal government following a petition filed by his ex-wife, Hasin Jahan, seeking an increase in the alimony provided to her and their daughter.
Hasin Jahan approached the apex court after the Calcutta High Court, in its July 1, 2025 order, fixed monthly maintenance at Rs 1.5 lakh for her and Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter. In her petition, Hasin argued that the amount is insufficient in light of Shami’s affluent lifestyle and substantial assets.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court raised a question regarding her plea, asking whether Rs 4 lakh per month is not sufficient. The bench remarked that the current award, as decided by the Calcutta High Court, is “quite handsome.”

Despite this, the court issued notices to both Shami and the West Bengal government, directing them to respond within four weeks. The next hearing is expected to take place in December 2025.
Allegations and Financial Arguments
Hasin Jahan’s counsel highlighted Shami’s financial standing, emphasizing that the cricketer earns significantly and owns substantial assets. “The husband earns a considerable amount. The affidavits reveal property worth hundreds of crores, luxury cars, frequent foreign travels, and a lavish lifestyle,” her lawyer stated before the court.
This latest development is part of an ongoing legal dispute between Shami and Hasin Jahan, which has been in progress since 2018. The case involves allegations of domestic abuse, dowry harassment, and financial disagreements, keeping the matter in public attention over the years.
As the case unfolds in the Supreme Court, it is likely to draw significant media coverage given Shami’s high-profile status in international cricket and the sensitive nature of the dispute.
