Australia faces injury concerns ahead of Ashes 2025-26 as pacers Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott suffer hamstring issues. Pat Cummins provides updates on their fitness ahead of the Perth Test.
Australia’s preparations for the highly anticipated Ashes 2025-26 series have hit a potential roadblock as star pacers Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott face injury concerns. Both players were forced off the field while representing New South Wales against Victoria in the ongoing Sheffield Shield clash at the SCG.
The first Test of the Ashes 2025-26 is scheduled to begin on November 21 in Perth, and Australia will be hoping for a full-strength squad. Hazlewood and Abbott, however, suffered hamstring issues during the match, forcing them to leave the field before lunch on Day Three. Their absence has raised concerns for the Australian camp ahead of the marquee series against England.
Pat Cummins Provides Fitness Update
Australia’s captain Pat Cummins, who has already been ruled out of the Perth Test due to a lumbar bone stress injury, provided an update on the fitness of Hazlewood and Abbott. According to Cummins, both pacers underwent hamstring scans, and while Hazlewood appeared confident after the assessment, Abbott’s situation remains under evaluation.

Cummins said, “There was a bit happening there for an hour or so. They both got scans. I haven’t got all the details yet. Josh seemed fine when he came out, so hopefully he will be okay. Sean, I’m not so sure about, and they are still assessing him.”
He added, “With the Test series just a week away, caution is key. We want to ensure we don’t push anyone too hard and risk worsening the situation.”
Australia’s Bowling Line-Up for Perth
Despite the injuries, Cummins confirmed that no further changes are planned for Australia’s bowling attack. He reassured fans that the team remains confident in its preparations, even in the absence of Hazlewood, Abbott, and himself.
“We’ll wait and see over the next 24 hours. Josh seemed confident walking out, so hopefully it won’t be a major issue,” Cummins noted.
As the Ashes 2025-26 series approaches, all eyes will be on the Australian squad to see whether Hazlewood and Abbott recover in time to feature in the Perth Test, ensuring a competitive start to the legendary series.
