Pakistan secured a comfortable 93-run victory over Oman in their Asia Cup 2025 opener at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Asia Cup : Captain Salman Agha opted to bat first, aiming to put scoreboard pressure on a relatively weaker side. However, opener Saim Ayub, regarded as one of Pakistan’s upcoming stars, failed to make an impact, departing for a golden duck.
His opening partner, Sahibzada Farhan, managed 29 runs but failed to impress, scoring at a strike rate of 100. Number three batsman Mohammad Haris was the lone bright spot, showcasing intent and finishing with 66 off 43 balls. Other batters struggled, including the usually aggressive Fakhar Zaman, who scored just 23 off 16 deliveries. Pakistan’s batting unit ultimately posted a modest 160 runs.
In response, Pakistan’s bowlers dominated, skittling Oman for just 67 runs, securing an easy win. Despite the comfortable result, the team has several issues to address ahead of their high-stakes clash against India on September 14.
For the upcoming match, Pakistan’s middle-order batting needs to adopt a more aggressive approach. Head coach Mike Hesson had emphasized playing attacking cricket, which was largely absent against Oman. Facing India’s formidable lineup, Pakistan will need to maintain pressure with both bat and ball. The bowlers, in particular, will face a stern test, as India’s batting is far stronger and less likely to collapse under pressure. Pakistan’s intent, attitude, and execution will be crucial against the tournament favorites
