Technology transforming welfare delivery
The Prime Minister stressed that technology has played a crucial role in improving governance through DBT and digital platforms. He said that direct transfer of benefits into bank accounts has reduced leakages, improved efficiency, and strengthened public trust in the system.
According to him, this digital transformation has made welfare delivery more transparent and effective.
Rural poverty decline highlighted
As per the Press Information Bureau (PIB), rural poverty in India has declined significantly from around 26% in 2012 to below 5% in 2024. The report highlights that millions of rural households have moved out of poverty over the past decade, marking a major social transformation.
DBT reform and governance impact
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), launched on January 1, 2013, was introduced to streamline welfare delivery using technology and ensure faster, more accurate transfer of benefits. The system has been widely credited with reducing fraud and improving accountability in government schemes.
