PM Narendra Modi urged citizens to stay safe amid intense heatwave, advising hydration, care for vulnerable groups, and precautions against heatstroke.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday issued a strong advisory urging citizens across the country to take maximum precautions amid an intense heatwave sweeping several parts of India. He emphasized that staying well-hydrated is essential during extreme summer conditions.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, the Prime Minister highlighted that children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers are the most vulnerable to rising temperatures and heat-related illnesses.
Warning Against Heat Exhaustion and Heatstroke
PM Narendra Modi cautioned people not to ignore early signs of heat exhaustion, which may include dizziness, nausea, fatigue, and headaches. He warned that if left untreated, such symptoms can escalate into life-threatening heatstroke.
He advised citizens to immediately shift affected individuals to a cool and shaded place and provide necessary first aid.
Hydration and Public Responsibility
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to drink plenty of water and carry drinking water while stepping outside. He also encouraged acts of kindness, such as offering water to others in need during the heatwave.
He further appealed to citizens to assist those affected by heat stress by providing water, ORS, and timely support, stressing that quick action can prevent serious health complications.

Care for Elderly and Family Members
PM Narendra Modi requested people to regularly check on elderly parents, grandparents, and loved ones during the ongoing heatwave. He advised ensuring they remain hydrated, avoid outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours, and take adequate rest.
Compassion for Animals and Birds
Highlighting empathy during extreme weather, the Prime Minister also urged citizens to take care of animals and birds. He suggested placing bowls of water outside homes, on balconies, terraces, shops, and offices to help them survive the harsh conditions.
Severe Heatwave Conditions Across India
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), several regions are witnessing extreme temperatures, with Banda in Uttar Pradesh recording 47.4°C on Tuesday.
IMD defines a heatwave when temperatures exceed 45°C in plains, while temperatures above 47°C are classified as a severe heatwave, indicating dangerous weather conditions.
