Rahul Gandhi claims PM Modi is scared to attend Lok Sabha over his remarks on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash and India-US trade deal. Opposition seeks discussion before Union Budget debate.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is avoiding the Lok Sabha because of the issues and points he raised in Parliament. Speaking to reporters at the Parliament premises, Gandhi stated that the PM was “scared” to face the House, not because of opposition MPs, but due to the content of his statements.
Rahul Gandhi referred to his earlier remarks on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, citing former Army Chief General MM Naravane’s memoir, claiming the government tried to adjourn the House to prevent him from raising this issue. “The Prime Minister was scared to come to the House, not because of the members, but because of what I was saying. He’s still scared because he cannot face the truth,” Gandhi said.
He also criticized the government over the suspension of several opposition MPs, stating, “There’s no question of our members attacking the Prime Minister. If someone threatens him, an FIR should be filed immediately, and the person should be arrested. Why isn’t this being done?”

Rahul Gandhi further highlighted that the opposition is eager for a discussion in Parliament, particularly on the Union Budget 2026-27. He suggested that the government is avoiding the debate due to the recent India-US trade deal, which could have implications for farmers and the nation’s economy. “My guess is the government is worried about having a debate on the budget because the US deal, its execution, and its impact on our farmers will be discussed, and the government does not want that,” he added.
Parliamentary Stand-off and Meeting with Speaker
The Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till Tuesday amid a standoff between the government and the opposition. Gandhi reportedly told Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that he should be allowed to speak before the Union Budget discussion begins. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju intervened, claiming that no such agreement exists and emphasized that Birla must be present in the House if Gandhi intends to speak.
Later, Rahul Gandhi met Speaker Birla to raise the issues he wanted to discuss in the House. According to sources, these include the suspension of eight Congress MPs, other parliamentary concerns, and charges against women MPs.
The incident reflects the rising tension in Parliament over transparency, budget debates, and the opposition’s demand to be heard on key national issues.
