Sanjay Singh accused the BJP, Congress and Akali Dal of targeting the Punjab government’s anti-drug campaign and raised questions over recent drug-related cases.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader Sanjay Singh has accused the BJP, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal of working together to undermine the Punjab government’s ongoing campaign against drugs. Addressing a press conference, he alleged that the opposition parties were attempting to politically target the Bhagwant Mann government and damage Punjab’s image over the drug issue.
Sanjay Singh claimed that three individuals — Jagga Singh, Mohanjeet Singh and Gulzar Singh — were being used by opposition parties to build a narrative against the AAP government. These allegations are part of the political dispute surrounding Punjab’s drug crisis and recent incidents in Sangrur.
Claims Regarding Jagga Singh
Sanjay Singh said Jagga Singh, whom he claimed had been referred to as “bhai” by BJP leaders, has nine cases registered against him. According to Singh, these include cases under the NDPS Act, along with other criminal cases, and he claimed that four of the cases had resulted in convictions.
Independent reports also confirm that Jagseer Singh, also known as Jagga, is at the centre of a recent political controversy after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance outside the Sangrur district administrative complex. He had reportedly raised allegations regarding drug activity in his village.
AAP Raises Questions Over Mohanjeet Singh Case
Sanjay Singh also referred to Mohanjeet Singh, who had reportedly displayed a black flag during an appearance involving Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He claimed that eight FIRs are registered against Mohanjeet Singh and questioned the opposition’s portrayal of the incident.
The allegations come amid a wider political confrontation in Punjab over the state’s drug problem, with opposition parties raising questions about the government’s handling of the issue and the AAP government defending its anti-drug campaign.
Gulzar Singh Case Also Draws Political Reactions
The AAP leader also discussed the case involving Gulzar Singh, alleging that opposition parties pressured him to make statements against the AAP and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.
The circumstances surrounding Gulzar Singh’s death have become the subject of political and legal scrutiny. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has sought a status report from the Punjab government regarding the investigation, while reports have also documented competing political claims over the circumstances preceding his death.

Sanjay Singh Targets Opposition Over Drug Issue
Sanjay Singh further alleged that the drug problem in Punjab had continued during previous governments led by different political parties. He accused the BJP, Congress and Akali Dal of attempting to politically exploit the current drug-related controversies.
He said the AAP government would continue its campaign against drugs and argued that political parties should not use individual cases to portray the entire state negatively.
Reference to Mundra Port Drug Seizure
During his remarks, Sanjay Singh also referred to the seizure of nearly 3,000 kg of heroin at Mundra Port in Gujarat in September 2021. Government records show that the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 2,988.21 kg of heroin at the port, after which the National Investigation Agency took up the investigation.
Sanjay Singh cited the Mundra case while questioning the BJP over its criticism of Punjab’s drug situation. His comments were part of the broader political debate between AAP and opposition parties over drug trafficking and enforcement.
Punjab Drug Issue Becomes Political Flashpoint
The latest exchange comes as political parties intensify their campaigns around the drug issue in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The BJP has launched its ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, while the AAP government has been highlighting its own anti-drug measures. Both sides have traded allegations over responsibility for the state’s longstanding drug problem.
Sanjay Singh maintained that the AAP government would not allow political allegations to derail its anti-drug campaign. The BJP, Congress and Akali Dal have separately criticized the Punjab government’s handling of recent drug-related incidents, making the issue a major point of political debate in the state.
