Governor Ramen Deka arrived in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai on a two-day visit. During his visit, he held a meeting with the officials and took information about the development works. In particular, he discussed in detail the progress of schemes being run in his adopted village Sonpuri.
The Governor took stock of the status of basic services like education, health, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, agriculture, horticulture and Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that it is the primary responsibility of the administration to ensure that the benefits of all the schemes should reach every village.
Emphasis on agriculture and processing
Governor Deka asked to produce tomatoes in Bari in view of the possibilities of tomato cultivation in village Sonpuri. He said that in view of the high production of tomatoes, it is necessary to promote its processing so that farmers get better prices and the crop is not wasted.
Instructions to give 100% scheme benefit
He directed the officials that 100% cards should be made under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. The deprived farmers of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi should be benefited soon.
Ensure tap water access under Jal Jeevan Mission
Discussing the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission, the Governor directed to ensure tap water supply to every household in Sonpuri. He called for prioritising measures like rainwater harvesting, soak pits and conservation of traditional water sources to maintain sustainability of water sources.
Call for tree plantation under ‘One Tree, Mother’s Name’ campaign
The Governor urged to plant more and more trees in all government buildings like schools, anganwadis, panchayat bhawans and health centres under the ‘Ek tree maa ke naam’ campaign. He described it as a sensitive initiative related to both environment and motherhood.
Preventing dropouts in education
Taking information about the children who have dropped out of school, the Governor asked to take concrete initiatives to re-connect such children with the school. He also appealed to make the villagers literate so that they can at least write their names.
The appreciation of women’s groups
The Governor appreciated the work being done by the self-help groups and directed the officials to further strengthen their economic condition by providing necessary resources and training to the groups. Governor Ramen Deka gave clear instructions to the officers that within three months all the development works going on in village Sonpuri would be taken up. He said that if any deficiency or hindrance is found in any scheme, quality work will be ensured by removing it immediately.
Guidelines to prevent accidents
Governor Ramen Deka took stock of the works of the police department and directed them to ensure proper measures to prevent road accidents. He expressed concern over the increasing incidents of motorcycle accidents in particular and stressed on conducting awareness campaigns.
He asked the vehicle owners to convince their drivers to regulate the speed of heavy vehicles in the city. He also directed to identify accident-prone areas and install safety measures like speed breakers, warning boards etc.
