Haryana Government’s Initiatives to Boost Farmers’ Income
Chandigarh, March 6 – Haryana’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Sh. Shyam Singh Rana, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to increasing farmers’ income and making agriculture a profitable venture.
Speaking at an event hosted by a private channel, the minister highlighted various initiatives, including promoting natural farming, revitalizing barren land, and encouraging shrimp farming. The government is supporting Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), agricultural mechanization, and agro-tourism. Plans are in place to ensure better support prices for natural farming products, while farmers are being connected to FPOs to maximize returns. Additionally, modern agricultural equipment is being made accessible, and agro-tourism is being actively promoted.
To encourage a shift from traditional farming, an incentive of ₹25,000 is currently provided for purchasing native cows under the natural farming scheme, with plans to increase it to ₹30,000 soon. Four natural farming training centers have been set up in Haryana at Gurukul (Kurukshetra), Gharaunda (Karnal), Jind, and Mangiana (Sirsa).
Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, financial assistance of ₹6,563 crore has been disbursed to 20.69 lakh farmers in Haryana.
For farmers facing crop failure, agriculture officers at block and district levels assess losses, and compensation is provided through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana or the Kshatipurti portal.
Efforts to curb stubble burning have also been strengthened. Subsidies ranging from 50% to 80% are offered on crop residue management machines, with over 1,00,882 machines distributed so far. Additionally, farmers receive ₹1,000 per acre for paddy residue management. Under the Mera Pani Meri Virasat scheme, incentives of ₹7,000 per acre are provided for switching from paddy to alternative crops, while ₹4,000 per acre is granted for direct paddy sowing. To further control stubble burning, red zone panchayats receive incentives of up to ₹1,00,000.
Sh. Shyam Singh Rana emphasized that through modern techniques, FPOs, agro-tourism, and financial assistance, the Haryana government is committed to strengthening farmers’ economic conditions and making agriculture a more viable and profitable occupation.
