CM Yogi Adityanath paid floral tributes to the statue of first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant on his death anniversary at Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant Park in Gorakhpur today.
Addressing the event, CM Yogi said that today is the death anniversary of Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, who was a great freedom fighter, eminent lawyer, efficient administrator and influential politician. He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly of India. After independence, he got the opportunity to further the governance system of the state as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. After being the Chief Minister of the state till 1954, he became the Home Minister of the country.
“The credit for establishing Hindi as the official language also goes to Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1957 for his invaluable services. He also mentioned that Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant himself had laid the foundation stone of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University campus where the event is being held. He renounced his physical body on 7 March 1961.
On this occasion MLA Navtej Singh Cheema, MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Deputy Commissioner Deepti Uppal, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur IPS, Civil Surgeon Dr. Parminder Kaur, Congress leader Amandeep Singh Gora Gill, Ranjit Singh Rana, SMO. Dr. Bholath Shalindar Singh and others were present.
