To strengthen the fight against obesity, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment,Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, will participate in the nationwide ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative on March 23, 2025. He will be accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Smt. Anandiben Patel and the state’s Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, Shri Girish Chandra Yadav.
Union Minister Mansukh will lead over 400 cyclists on a 3-kilometre ride from Marine Drive (Samajik Parivartan Sthal) to Samta Mulak Chauraha, then to 1090 Chauraha, before returning to the starting point. The initiative aims to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of combating obesity and encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle.
Meanwhile, Asian Games medalist and javelin thrower Kishore Jena will take part in the cycling movement at Aksa Beach in Mumbai, while members of the Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) will join the initiative in New Delhi.
So far, the nationwide cycling drive has been conducted in 4,200 locations, with around 2 lakh participants. In addition to promoting fitness, the initiative also advocates for eco-friendly practices to reduce air pollution. The movement is taking place across multiple states and union territories, engaging cycling enthusiasts, athletes, coaches, and sports science experts.
Previously, the event has seen participation from Indian Army personnel, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and notable sports personalities, including Lovlina Borgohain, Sangram Singh, Shanky Singh, Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora, Paralympics bronze medallist Rubina Francis, and para world champion Simran Sharma. Celebrities such as Rahul Bose, Amit Sial, and Gul Panag have also supported the initiative.
Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), My Bikes, and MY Bharat, ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ takes place simultaneously at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs) across the country.
