Ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting with senior officials to review flood preparedness and measures against excessive rainfall. The CM issued strict directives to ensure robust flood management and warned that any negligence at any level would lead to strict action against the responsible officials.
Focus on Sensitive Embankments and Drain Repairs
During the meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath instructed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to prioritize repair and maintenance of drains and embankments that are vulnerable to floods. Officials were advised to ensure coordination, vigilance, and timely completion of all flood management activities.

Flood-Prone Districts and Sensitive Embankments
According to the Chief Secretary of the Irrigation Department, around 23 districts across the Ganga, Saryu (Ghaghra), Rapti, Ramganga, Gandak, Yamuna, Gomti, and Son river basins are vulnerable to floods. Among them, 19 embankments in 11 districts are classified as highly sensitive, while 18 embankments in 12 districts are considered sensitive. The total length of all embankments is 706.5 km. CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized close monitoring and strengthened security for these embankments.
Advanced Monitoring and Flood Management Measures
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure real-time monitoring of all embankments and barrages. He instructed the use of drone mapping, water level sensors, and enhanced coordination with local administration. Furthermore, CM Yogi stressed dredging of river mainstreams wherever necessary to remove silt and reduce flood risks.
Preparedness and Vigilance are Key
CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized that all departments must maintain full preparedness for the monsoon season. He warned that any slackness in flood management would not be tolerated and stressed that timely action and coordination are essential to protect lives and property in flood-prone areas.
This initiative is part of the state government’s comprehensive flood management strategy aimed at safeguarding citizens and minimizing damages during the monsoon season.
