UP Legislative Council vote counting begins at 8 AM across seven cities for 11 constituencies, with security and CCTV arrangements in place.
UP Legislative Council Election Results: Counting of votes for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council biennial elections is scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, covering 11 constituencies across the state. The exercise includes five graduates’ constituencies and six teachers’ constituencies, with counting arrangements made at designated centres in seven cities.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa announced the schedule in a statement issued on Monday. According to the announcement, the UP Legislative Council vote counting will take place in Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Jhansi, Bareilly and Gorakhpur under the supervision of election officials and observers.
UP Legislative Council Vote Counting: List of Counting Centres
The Election Commission has designated specific venues for counting votes in the respective cities. The centres are as follows:
Lucknow: Ramabai Rally Ground
Varanasi: State Warehouse Corporation
Agra: Naveen Krishi Utpadan Mandi Samiti, Tundla Road
Meerut: Gandhi Hall Building, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Modipuram
Jhansi: Kothari Hall, Bundelkhand Degree College
Bareilly: Sanjay Community Hall
Gorakhpur: Commerce Building, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University
The UP Legislative Council vote counting for all 11 constituencies will be conducted at these designated locations under the direction of the respective returning officers and the supervision of appointed observers.
Security and Monitoring Arrangements at Counting Centres
Authorities have made arrangements to ensure that the counting process remains peaceful, transparent and orderly. Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa has directed the returning officers concerned to make all necessary preparations for the exercise.
The instructions include maintaining an uninterrupted 24-hour power supply at every counting centre. Adequate security personnel will also be deployed at the venues and remain on duty until the counting process is completed.
In addition, CCTV surveillance and videography arrangements will be put in place to monitor proceedings. Officials and staff assigned to counting duties have also been instructed to receive their responsibilities well in advance.
Why Vote Counting May Take Longer
The UP Legislative Council vote counting process may take considerable time because these elections follow the proportional representation system using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) method.
Under this system, votes are counted according to candidates’ preferences and the applicable quota requirements. Consequently, the counting procedure can be more complex than a straightforward tally of votes.
To avoid disruptions, the CEO has directed officials to keep a sufficient number of trained personnel on reserve duty. Additional staff can be deployed if required to ensure that counting continues smoothly until the process is completed.
Focus on Fair and Transparent Results
The election authorities have emphasised the importance of maintaining fairness, transparency and security throughout the counting exercise. Returning officers and observers will oversee the proceedings at the designated centres.
The UP Legislative Council vote counting will determine the outcome of the biennial elections across the five graduates’ and six teachers’ constituencies. The final results will emerge after the prescribed counting process is completed and the election authorities formally declare the outcomes.
