In a remarkable display of talent, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned cricket fans by scoring a 36-ball century for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. The young prodigy not only stole the limelight but also surpassed legendary cricketer Shahid Afridi, who had scored a 37-ball century in an ODI against Sri Lanka back in 1996.
A Historic Feat in List A Cricket
Vaibhav’s blistering century now makes him the joint-fourth fastest centurion in the history of One-Day cricket, equaling New Zealand’s Corey Anderson. Among Indian players, he now holds the second fastest List A century, behind Anmolpreet Singh, who scored a 35-ball ton for Punjab last season against the same opposition.
With this innings, Suryavanshi also overtook notable Indian cricketers like Yusuf Pathan (40 balls), Urvil Patel (41 balls), and Abhishek Sharma (42 balls), cementing his position as one of the fastest scorers in domestic cricket history.

Vijay Hazare Trophy Spotlight
The opening day of the tournament was expected to be dominated by seasoned stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who returned after 15 and 7 years respectively. However, it was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Bihar’s young deputy captain, who captured global attention within an hour, hitting 10 fours and 8 sixes to complete his century in the 12th over.
Despite recent scrutiny over his behavior in the U19 Asia Cup final against Pakistan, Vaibhav’s composure at the crease remained unshaken, proving his maturity and mental strength beyond his years.
