CM Yogi Adityanath grants land ownership to 4,345 Tharu families in Lakhimpur. Learn about the withdrawal of 4,100 cases and his stern warning to the mafia.
Marking a historic shift for the tribal communities of Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed land ownership rights to thousands of Tharu families at Chandan Chowki near the Indo-Nepal border. The event, held on the birth anniversary of social reformer Sant Jyotiba Phule, carried a significant socio-political message of inclusion and empowerment.
Restoring Dignity to the Marginalized
Addressing a massive gathering, Yogi Adityanath handed over land title deeds to 4,345 Tharu families, along with 2,350 families from Purvanchal who were also granted their long-awaited rights. The Chief Minister emphasized that these documents are not merely papers but a “symbol of identity and self-reliance.” Yogi Adityanath noted that for decades, these families lived in neglect, and this move finally integrates them into the mainstream of development.

Justice and Relief from Legal Hardships
In a major relief for the community, Yogi Adityanath announced the withdrawal of approximately 4,100 cases registered against the Tharu community during the previous Samajwadi Party regime. He criticized former governments for settling these people without granting them legal rights or security, stating that the current administration is committed to rectifying these historical injustices.
Zero Tolerance for Crime and Corruption
Turning his focus to law and order, Yogi Adityanath sent a stern warning to criminals and the opposition. He contrasted the past “One District, One Mafia” culture with his government’s “One District, One Product” (ODOP) initiative. “In our state, no mafia or goon will be allowed to thrive. Anyone who breaks the law will be ground into the dust (Mitti mein mila diya jayega),” Yogi Adityanath declared, reiterating his commitment to a crime-free Uttar Pradesh.
A Vision for Sustainable Development
Accompanied by Forest Minister Arun Saxena and Minister-in-charge Nitin Agarwal, the Chief Minister highlighted that the restoration of land rights is the first step toward total self-reliance for the Tharu tribe. By providing legal ownership, the government has paved the way for these families to access credit, subsidies, and modern infrastructure. Following the event, Yogi Adityanath departed for Mohammadi, leaving behind a community empowered with both land and legacy.
