Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath attended the wedding ceremony of 1,200 couples under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme organised by the Social Welfare Department in Gorakhpur. He showered blessings and gifts on the newly married couples.
CM Yogi said that this scheme is a concrete step towards furthering Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Lok Kalyan Kari and ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign. It hurts social evils like dowry, child marriage, polygamy.
He informed that the state government launched Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana for the education and empowerment of daughters, under which so far about 24 lakh girls are being given assistance of 25,000 at different stages of education from birth to graduation.
CM Yogi said that when a daughter is eligible for marriage, the government takes the responsibility of marriage through the government’s mass marriage scheme. Where earlier only ₹20,000 was received for marriage, today assistance of ₹1 lakh is being given under the scheme, which includes clothes, household items, jewellery and ₹60,000 in the daughter’s account.
He said that the scheme is above any discrimination like caste, religion, language and the administration arranges marriages on the basis of all registrations.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the changes that have taken place in the 11 years of leadership of Prime Minister Modi, such as:
Housing for 4 crore poor
Free gas connections to 10 crore people
12 crore for toilets
45 crore Jan Dhan accounts
Rs 50 crore outlay for Ayushman Bharat scheme
Rs. 80 crore for free ration
He referred to the provision of house ownership rights to rural families under the Swamitva scheme and interest-free loans to youth under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan.
The Chief Minister said that bringing a change in the lives of the poor and the last person standing is the real nation building. The mass marriage scheme is a symbol of this thinking.
Mayor, MLAs, officials and others were present on the occasion.
