About His “Love-Hate” Relationship With SP, Akash Anand Says: “Agar Akhilesh Badtameezi Karenge Toh.”

Akash Anand Points Akhilesh Yadav

The tense connection between Mayawati, the late Mulayam Singh Yadav, and his son Akhilesh Yadav was discussed by her nephew, Akash Anand. He blames misbehavior and broken promises for the breakup.

The BSP supremo Mayawati’s nephew and political heir, Akash Anand, talked about the complicated relationship between Mayawati, Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, and his son, Akhilesh Yadav, who is currently the party president. He addressed the difficulties in partnerships in an interview with ANI, saying, “A relationship doesn’t end unless the people in it aren’t able to keep their promises. If one makes a commitment, one ought to honor it.” Anand made it clear that his criticism of Mulayam Singh’s political career was not directed towards the politician; rather, he was concentrating on his “love-hate relationship” with Mayawati.

“At one point, someone asked for forgiveness after making a mistake. Nobody will put up with misbehaving while you’re younger—not in their home, not in ours. In the same way, Behen ji and our society would not put up with misbehavior from Akhilesh ji. I believe that the reason the relationship is so tough right now is because of the misbehavior he demonstrated and his failure to keep his word,” he continued.

Regarding if Mayawati has closed the door on Akhilesh, Akash Anand emphasized the practical strategy of seizing opportunities and said that there are never closed doors in politics. In politics, there is never a closed door. Whether it’s Akhilesh ji’s SP, Narendra Modi ji’s BJP, or Sonia Gandhi’s Congress, she (Mayawati) knows how to exploit it efficiently. We will take advantage of every opportunity to establish a government, he continued.

Anand refuted the idea that the SP is the BSP’s principal rival, pointing out that Akhilesh Yadav’s party has little sway in Uttar Pradesh. He claimed that their rivalry is not with the SP but more with holding onto their support base.

“If you come towards Western UP, then they have very little activity on the ground and they have also very little vote share. I would constrain them to one part of UP rather than the whole UP and our competition is not with the SP, but we actually try to keep our voters intact anyhow,” ANI quoted him as saying.

Regarding the choice to run for office on an independent ticket, Akash Anand clarified that the BSP lost votes to the Congress and BJP because its core supporters were unconvinced of the alliance with the SP. He was confident that staying out of alignment would help them hold onto their vote share and possibly grow it. Anand also alluded to potential coalitions under favorable political conditions.

We also saw part of the Bahujan Samaj Party’s vote share go to the Congress and BJP since our core supporters were not persuaded to form a coalition with the Samajwadi Party. We believe that if we continue to be in the non-alliance, we will be able to both maintain and grow our vote share. We can perform social engineering in the future when time permits, and under the correct conditions and political climate, we will be able to guard more seats,” he continued, as reported by ANI.

The BSP has performed inconsistently in successive polls, despite its historical victory in the 2007 UP assembly elections, where it won a majority on its own. Over the years, the party has seen ups and downs in the polls, losing both the Lok Sabha and the assembly. The BSP has mostly failed in its autonomous attempts to spread into other states. But in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the party saw a revival, and through coalitions, it was able to win a sizable number of seats in the elections that followed. However, the BSP has only won one seat in the state votes for 2022, indicating a lackluster performance in recent years.
