Punjab Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravjot Singh unfurled the national flag as chief guest during the district-level Independence Day celebrations at the Multipurpose Sports Stadium in Pathankot today.
Following the flag hoisting, the minister inspected the parade and conveyed his message to the people of the district. He then took the salute from an impressive march past presented by contingents of Punjab Police, Women Police, Home Guard, NCC, and school students. The event was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Pathankot Hardeep Singh and SSP Daljinder Singh Dhillon.
Extending greetings to the people of Pathankot and the entire nation on the 79th Independence Day, Dr. Ravjot Singh recalled the unparalleled sacrifices made by Punjabis in the freedom struggle. He reiterated the Punjab Government’s resolve to realize the dreams of the martyrs, noting that the ex-gratia for families of martyred soldiers has been increased from ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore, with Agniveers also brought under this scheme. He further said that to revive Punjab’s sporting excellence, financial support of ₹15 lakh and ₹8 lakh is being given to players for training.

Highlighting the government’s achievements, the minister said that under CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, Punjab is excelling in sectors like electricity, agriculture, education, infrastructure, urban and rural development, health, law and order, and industry. Key initiatives include the expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics, deployment of new ambulances, free power supply, easy registry, cleaning of ponds across villages, irrigation to tail-end fields, the anti-drug and anti-corruption campaigns, construction of rural playgrounds, allowances for players, health insurance of ₹10 lakh for all, and creation of industrial committees to boost investment.
Dr. Ravjot Singh added that the state is commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in a grand way, reflecting Punjab’s deep respect for its spiritual and historical legacy.
