Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann targets Bikram Singh Majithia over a 40,000-page chargesheet, announces ₹51 lakh for Kamalpur village and highlights jobs and welfare schemes.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has launched a sharp attack on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia over a 40,000-page chargesheet filed against him by the Vigilance Bureau. Addressing a Lok Milni programme in Kamalpur village of Jagraon, Mann expressed confidence that Majithia would face legal consequences.
“Yesterday, a 40,000-page chargesheet was filed against Bikram Singh Majithia. I bet he will not be able to escape now,” Mann said while criticising the former governments over the drug problem in Punjab.
The Chief Minister alleged that previous administrations had damaged Punjab’s reputation by allowing the drug menace to grow. He said the state was once recognised for its soldiers, traditional culture, Giddha and Bhangra, but later became associated with drugs and related activities.
₹51 Lakh Development Grant Announced for Kamalpur
During the public interaction, Mann announced an additional grant of ₹51 lakh for development projects in Kamalpur village and handed over a cheque to the village sarpanch.
He said the government had already spent ₹4.5 crore on development works in the village. The latest amount will be used for constructing a pond and installing interlocking tiles.
Targeting the previous Congress and Akali-BJP governments, Mann alleged that villages earlier received grants of around ₹50,000, with considerable time being spent on accounting for the funds rather than development.
He said the current government transfers money directly into village accounts, allowing sarpanches to decide priorities in consultation with residents.
“The money belongs to the people. They pay taxes, and their money is being spent on development,” Mann said.
Women to Receive Financial Assistance on November 1
Speaking about the government’s financial assistance scheme for women, Mann said beneficiaries would receive mobile notifications on November 1 regarding the transfer of money into their bank accounts.
He acknowledged that the assistance might not make anyone wealthy but said it could help families meet everyday expenses.
Recalling interactions with women beneficiaries, Mann said some had used the money to clear shopkeepers’ credit, while others purchased bicycles for their grandchildren.
He also criticised opposition parties for questioning the scheme and asked why financial support to women was being portrayed negatively.
Bhagwant Mann Claims 70,600 Government Jobs Provided Without Recommendations
Highlighting the government’s employment record, the Chief Minister claimed that 70,600 government jobs had been provided during his administration without political recommendations or influence.
He encouraged young people to concentrate on education and prepare for competitive examinations, including recruitment tests for patwaris and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Mann said his government wanted candidates to secure employment through merit rather than political connections. According to him, selected candidates received appointment offers without having to approach political leaders.
The Chief Minister also highlighted improvements in government education, claiming that the number of Punjab students qualifying for the NEET examination increased from 80 in 2021 to 882 in 2026.
He said the rise demonstrated progress in the state’s education system and would create better opportunities for children from ordinary families to pursue medical careers.
‘Education Is the Key to Ending Poverty’
Bhagwant Mann said providing ration through blue or yellow cards could offer temporary relief to poor families, but education was necessary to bring lasting change.
He stressed that children should receive quality education and opportunities to become officers and professionals. According to him, education is the most effective way to help families overcome poverty.
The Chief Minister also claimed that fewer young people were leaving Punjab for foreign countries and that employment opportunities within the state were improving. He added that Punjabis living abroad also faced challenges related to weather and living conditions.

Bhagwant Mann Targets Sukhbir Badal and Congress Leaders
During his address, Bhagwant Mann also took aim at SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, making sarcastic remarks about an earlier exchange between Sukhbir and his father, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
He criticised the Congress as well, comparing its political condition to that of a 90-year-old person requiring care at home. Mann also directed remarks at Congress leaders Charanjit Singh Channi, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Accusing opposition parties of being focused on political power, Mann alleged that their leaders frequently changed positions and maintained friendly relations despite publicly criticising one another.
Referring to a recent wedding attended by political leaders, he claimed that politicians socialised together while their public political rivalries created divisions among ordinary people.
Bhagwant Mann Says His Government Remains Connected With People
The Chief Minister accused previous administrations led by Captain Amarinder Singh and Sukhbir Badal of becoming inaccessible to the public after coming to power. He alleged that these leaders began meeting people only when elections approached.
In contrast, Mann said his government regularly interacted with residents and tried to understand their problems through public meetings.
Defending his decision to enter politics, Mann said he had no intention of making money through public life. He recalled his earlier career as an entertainer and his association with performers Binnu Dhillon and Karamjit Anmol through the Jugnu team.
“I thought laughter is meaningful only when there is a fire burning in the household stove,” he said, explaining his decision to enter public service.
The Chief Minister concluded by saying that political power ultimately belongs to the people. He credited voters for his electoral victories and urged residents to remain united and actively participate in decisions related to village development.
The Bhagwant Mann Majithia chargesheet statement and his remarks on previous governments, employment, education and welfare schemes were among the major highlights of the Kamalpur public meeting.
