Aman Arora attacks SAD-BJP over Punjab’s drug crisis and backs the 40,000-page chargesheet in the Bikram Singh Majithia case involving an alleged ₹736.96 crore financial trail.
AAP Punjab president and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora has launched a fresh political attack on the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing their 2007–2017 rule of allowing the drug crisis to deepen across Punjab. He urged voters to prevent the two parties from returning to power, arguing that the state must not repeat a period that, according to him, caused widespread suffering among young people and their families.
Reacting to the Punjab Vigilance Bureau’s reported filing of a 40,000-page chargesheet against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and two other accused, Arora said the investigation had brought an alleged financial network involving 10 companies and transactions worth ₹736.96 crore under scrutiny. He credited Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government with pursuing the case through the legal system.
The allegations in the Bikram Singh Majithia case remain subject to judicial proceedings. The filing of a chargesheet does not establish guilt, and the court will determine the facts based on the evidence presented.
Aman Arora Blames SAD-BJP Rule for Punjab’s Drug Crisis
Addressing a press conference, Arora questioned the SAD and BJP’s criticism of the current government’s handling of drugs, pointing to their decade in power between 2007 and 2017.
He alleged that drug addiction spread extensively during that period, leaving families devastated and many parents struggling with the consequences of substance abuse among their children.
Arora said Punjab’s people had not forgotten those years and should carefully assess the previous government’s record before deciding the state’s political future. He maintained that the state could not afford to return to circumstances that had harmed its youth.
His remarks intensified the AAP’s criticism of the SAD-BJP alliance, with the ruling party presenting its anti-drug campaign as a key issue ahead of future political contests.
40,000-Page Chargesheet in Majithia Case Draws AAP’s Support
Welcoming the Vigilance Bureau’s reported chargesheet, Aman Arora described it as an important development in the investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving Majithia.
According to the AAP leader, investigators had examined transactions worth ₹736.96 crore and a network involving 10 companies. He questioned how the alleged wealth had been accumulated and called for accountability through the courts.
Aman Arora said the investigation should establish the source of the funds and identify anyone found responsible for wrongdoing, irrespective of political influence or position.
The Bikram Singh Majithia case has become a major point of political debate in Punjab, with the AAP government highlighting the investigation as part of its campaign against corruption and drug trafficking. The allegations, however, must be established through the judicial process.
Aman Arora Praises Bhagwant Mann Government’s Anti-Corruption Efforts
Aman Arora congratulated Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, saying the government was committed to taking cases involving influential individuals before the courts.
He argued that political connections should not shield anyone from legal scrutiny and said accountability was essential to restoring public confidence in the state’s institutions.
According to Aman Arora, the government’s approach differs from that of previous administrations because it is pursuing investigations against powerful individuals. He maintained that the fight against drugs and corruption required consistent enforcement rather than political statements alone.
The AAP leader said the legal process should determine responsibility based on evidence, without favouring or targeting individuals because of their political affiliations.
Congress Also Targeted Over Promise to End Drugs
Aman Arora also criticised the previous Congress government for failing, in his view, to deliver on its promise to eliminate drugs from Punjab.
He referred to former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s 2017 oath on Gutka Sahib to eradicate the drug menace. Aman Arora alleged that the commitment had not translated into the results promised to the public.
He also invoked the political relationship between Amarinder Singh and Majithia, recalling descriptions of them as “chacha-bhatija” by Congress leaders. He questioned why the drug problem had persisted despite the assurances made during the election campaign.
These remarks formed part of Arora’s criticism of successive opposition parties over their handling of the drug crisis.

Border Surveillance and Drug Smuggling Remain Key Concerns
Discussing cross-border narcotics trafficking, Aman Arora said the Mann government had strengthened border monitoring, increased patrolling and deployed drones to prevent drugs from entering Punjab.
He stressed that enforcement efforts must go beyond intercepting individual consignments and focus on identifying the wider networks responsible for transporting and distributing narcotics.
Aman Arora also referred to major heroin seizures, including consignments of approximately 3,000 kilograms at Gujarat ports. He said such recoveries raised questions about the routes used by smugglers and the people facilitating the movement of drugs.
According to him, investigators must examine every stage of the supply chain, from production and wholesale distribution to local retail networks. He argued that coordinated action against the entire network was necessary to reduce the availability of narcotics and protect young people.
AAP Warns Against Return to SAD-BJP Government
Aman Arora accused the SAD and BJP of seeking to regain power and alleged that their return could revive political and financial networks associated with previous administrations.
He urged voters to judge political parties by their performance in government rather than by promises made during election campaigns. He also appealed to Punjabis to consider the social impact of drug addiction when assessing the state’s political choices.
The AAP leader said Punjab’s youth and families should remain central to public policy and insisted that the state must continue working towards a drug-free future.
Rangla Punjab Remains AAP Government’s Stated Goal
Concluding his remarks, Aman Arora said the Mann government had spent nearly five years pursuing its stated objectives of protecting young people, combating drug abuse and building a “Rangla Punjab”.
He maintained that sustained action, stronger enforcement and accountability were necessary to dismantle drug networks and prevent further harm to families.
The Bikram Singh Majithia case is likely to remain a prominent issue in Punjab’s political debate as the legal proceedings move forward. For the AAP government, the chargesheet represents an opportunity to underline its anti-corruption position, while the opposition’s response and the evidence presented in court will shape the next stage of the matter.
Ultimately, the Bikram Singh Majithia case will be decided through the judicial process. Allegations against Majithia and the other accused should not be treated as proven facts unless established by the court.
