CM Mohan Yadav has said that Bhopal is one of the most beautiful cities in the country.
CM Mohan : The State Government is moving ahead with a well-planned strategy to develop it as a metropolitan city. Neighboring districts will also benefit from this growth. To enhance regional connectivity, the Western Bypass is being developed, while metro train services in Bhopal are scheduled to commence by October 2025. Tourism will also receive a boost, as Shikara rides—similar to those on Dal Lake in Kashmir—will be introduced on the city’s famous ‘Bada Tal’ with support from the Tourism Development Corporation. Alongside, grand gateways are being constructed on major city roads, and a large convention center is also planned.
The Chief Minister was addressing a program at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium, organized by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation for the Bhoomi Poojan of development works, distribution of appointment and compassionate appointment letters, and the felicitation of sanitation workers. CM Dr. Yadav inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
At the program, CM Dr. Yadav laid the foundation stone for water supply-related works worth Rs. 582.32 crore and 50 ward-level development works worth Rs. 16.76 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 Mission. Appointment and compassionate appointment letters were distributed, and sanitation workers were honored for Bhopal’s outstanding performance in the Swachh Survekshan 2024.
CM Dr. Yadav said that it is under the visionary leadership and commitment of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to improve the lives of every Indian that Bhopal city will now ensure a clean drinking water supply to 30,000 households under AMRUT 2.0. The rapid expansion of urban development and civic amenities across India is a result of the Prime Minister’s determination, making life easier for common citizens. Presently, development works are underway in 295 towns across Madhya Pradesh. He recalled that India’s urban systems have been well-organised and prosperous since ancient times, with Harappa and Mohenjo-daro serving as historical examples. CM Dr. Yadav further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India’s economy has risen to the fourth position globally. Indian democracy has earned global respect, and in this democracy, local bodies hold a critical role. Whenever a new scheme is launched by the Centre or the State, its implementation primarily rests with the local bodies. Historically, citizens of Bhopal have actively contributed to democratic traditions—the Bhopal Merger Movement after Independence being a prime example. The active role of democratic institutions and the sense of security provided by the Indian Armed Forces have accelerated development in all sectors, including the economy.
Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Shri Vishwas Kailash Sarang said that the growth of cities is vital for the overall development of any state. Continuous urban expansion creates new employment opportunities. CM Dr. Yadav has rightly emphasised urban development, while Prime Minister Shri Modi has introduced milestone welfare schemes for cities, including the Smart City Mission and Swachh Survekshan. This year, Bhopal secured second place in cleanliness rankings.
Under AMRUT 2.0, water storage tanks will be constructed to address drinking water challenges and ensure a clean and reliable supply. Shri Sarang urged citizens to contribute wholeheartedly to making Bhopal No. 1 in the next cleanliness survey.
Mayor of Bhopal Smt. Malti Rai said that under AMRUT 2.0, four new filter plants and four intake wells will be constructed to meet future drinking water needs, along with a 700-km-long pipeline network supplied through 36 overhead tanks. She informed that compassionate appointment letters are being issued to the families of 31 BMC employees who passed away untimely, while appointment letters were also distributed to 24 candidates selected through direct recruitment. She added that it is due to the efforts of sanitation workers that Bhopal achieved a high ranking in cleanliness, and honoring them is everyone’s responsibility.
The event was attended by former Protem Speaker and MLA Shri Rameshwar Sharma, MLA Shri Bhagwan Das Sabnani, Shri Ravindra Yati, corporators, officers, BMC employees, sanitation workers and a large number of citizens.
