Punjab Police has received complaints that some individuals, posing as members of a political party, are not only collecting citizens’ personal data but also demanding money as commission to get their government work done.
A Punjab Police spokesperson revealed that certain complainants even shared their bank account details with these individuals, after which their accounts were fraudulently emptied.
The spokesperson assured that all such complaints are under investigation and strict legal action will be taken against the culprits. People have been strongly advised to avoid sharing personal information with unauthorized persons, as it can be misused. Citizens should also refrain from approaching private intermediaries for government work, since the state has already established numerous ‘Sewa Kendras’ across Punjab where official services can be availed directly. No one should pay commission or dalali to any political party member or private person for official work.
The public has been urged to promptly inform police if any such illegal camps are noticed in their area. The spokesperson further reiterated that the has already cautioned citizens against disclosing personal data to unauthorized individuals or agencies, and appealed to the public to remain alert and immediately report any such suspicious activities to the authorities.
