The eagerly awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper Express is all set to roll out just ahead of Diwali.
Vande Bharat ,Designed for long-distance journeys, the train promises passengers an air-travel-like experience at train fares. Expected to debut by the end of September, the service will provide a faster, more comfortable, and economical option for travelers.
Route and schedule
The sleeper train will run between Delhi and Patna via Prayagraj, sharply cutting travel time. Departing Patna at 8 PM and reaching Delhi by 7:30 AM, the journey will take only 11.5 hours compared to the current 12–17 hours. With festive travel creating heavy demand on this route, the train is expected to greatly ease congestion.
Faster, more affordable, and comfortable
Unlike the day-time chair-car versions of the Vande Bharat Express, this sleeper model is tailored for overnight travel. Capable of speeds up to 180 km/h, it will drastically reduce travel times. For perspective, the Rajdhani Express takes about 23 hours on the same route, whereas the new sleeper service will cover it in nearly half the time. Offering flight-like comfort but at fares much lower than air tickets, it ensures both affordability and luxury.
Key features
Built with advanced Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), the sleeper train comes with:
-
CCTV cameras for security
-
LED screens for infotainment
-
Automatic sensor doors
-
Fire safety systems
-
Onboard announcement system
The interiors are designed with an aircraft-style layout, maximizing comfort for resting or enjoying entertainment during the journey.
Ticket fares
Fares are projected to be 10–15% higher than Rajdhani Express on the same route. However, considering the reduced travel time and modern features, the service still remains far cheaper than flying while offering unmatched speed and comfort for long-distance commuters.
