UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extends Govardhan Puja greetings, highlights government schemes supporting farmers and cattle conservation, boosting Uttar Pradesh’s agrarian economy.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warmly greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Govardhan Puja, emphasizing the festival’s deep connection to India’s agrarian economy. Speaking from Gorakhpur, the CM highlighted the significance of cows and their offspring in sustaining India’s agricultural heritage and prosperity.
“Govardhan Puja is not just a religious observance but a powerful symbol of the backbone of India’s economy — its cattle and farming communities,” Adityanath said. “I feel blessed to worship and serve cows today, recognizing their vital role in our nation’s growth.”
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has initiated innovative programs like the Govardhan Yojana, which focus on producing bio-compost and ethanol from cow dung. These efforts not only conserve and promote cattle but also create sustainable income sources for farmers.

Adityanath shared that Uttar Pradesh is home to approximately 16 lakh cattle and that his administration has launched three key schemes aimed at supporting farmers and their families involved in cattle rearing:
-
Destitute Cow Shelter Scheme: The government provides financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per cow per month to shelters that care for abandoned or stray cattle, ensuring their well-being.
-
Sahbhagita Scheme: Farmers who participate in this program receive four cattle, along with a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 per cow, totaling Rs 6,000 per month, promoting bovine protection and conservation.
-
Malnourished Families Scheme: Designed to support vulnerable families, this initiative provides cows to malnourished mothers and families with children. These families take care of the cows and receive Rs 1,500 monthly, helping improve their livelihood.
“The Govardhan Scheme has empowered farmers, helping them achieve prosperity while supporting the sustainable use of cattle through biogas and ethanol production. These measures are transforming cow dung into a valuable commodity, benefiting rural economies,” said the Chief Minister.
This Govardhan Puja, Yogi Adityanath’s message underscores the importance of cattle in India’s agriculture, along with the government’s ongoing commitment to farmer welfare and rural development.
