At least six women tragically lost their lives after being struck by a train at Chunar Railway Station in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday morning. The incident reportedly occurred around 9:30 AM when the victims attempted to cross the tracks to reach the platform. They were hit by the high-speed Kalka Express running on a parallel line, leaving no time to react.
According to police officials, all six victims were residents of Mirzapur district, and their families have been informed. Prakash D., Additional Director General (Railways), confirmed that the women have been identified. The incident created panic among passengers, prompting immediate action from railway and local authorities to carry out rescue and relief operations. Senior officials arrived at the site to supervise the situation and ensure the bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. He instructed senior officials to reach the site immediately and oversee rescue and relief operations. The Chief Minister also directed the deployment of SDRF and NDRF teams on a war footing to assist in the emergency. He emphasized that the injured must receive prompt medical care and wished them a speedy recovery.
In addition, CM Yogi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for each of the victims’ families, offering support in the aftermath of the tragic accident.
This unfortunate event highlights the ongoing safety concerns at railway crossings, emphasizing the need for strict vigilance and public awareness to prevent such accidents in the future.
