Amid NDA’s landslide victory in Bihar, speculation is rife over whether Nitish Kumar will continue as Chief Minister after a JD(U) post suggesting his continuation was deleted.
The political corridors of Bihar are abuzz with speculation over who will take charge as the next Chief Minister following the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) resounding victory in the state assembly elections. While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest party with 96 seats and the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) is leading on 85 seats, uncertainty continues around the chief ministerial face.
JD(U) leader and long-serving Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a pivotal figure in Bihar politics for nearly two decades, remains at the center of all discussions. Despite repeated assurances from senior BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, that Nitish Kumar will continue as CM, speculation has intensified after a now-deleted post by the JD(U) on X.

The post, which read, “Neither past nor future. Nitish Kumar was, is, and will remain the Chief Minister of Bihar,” was removed shortly after publication, fueling further debate over the party’s plans.
Even prior to the election results, posters and banners in Patna celebrated Nitish Kumar’s leadership. Vibrant posters with slogans such as “Tiger abhi zinda hai” and “25 se 30, phir se Nitish” appeared across the city, signaling public support for his continuation. Outside the Chief Minister’s residence, a large poster of Nitish Kumar alongside a tiger became an iconic image, symbolizing his enduring political strength.
The NDA’s decisive win, surpassing the 200-seat mark, has solidified its dominance in Bihar. Meanwhile, the opposition Mahagathbandhan could secure only 27 seats, a sharp decline from previous elections.
JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar emphasized the alignment of leadership, public will, and the NDA’s mandate, stating, “Nitish Kumar ji will remain the chief minister as long as he wishes. His will, the people’s aspiration, and the NDA’s resolve are aligned.”
As the state waits for the official announcement, the key question remains: will Nitish Kumar assume office for the historic tenth time as Bihar’s Chief Minister? Political analysts suggest that the party will likely formalize the decision in the coming days, keeping the focus on continuity and stability in the state government.
