Gold rates in India saw a slight rise on Wednesday morning as global traders remained cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate announcement. The mild upward movement reflects the wait-and-watch sentiment in international markets, with investors avoiding major positions before the central bank’s policy update.

The increase in gold prices was visible across key Indian metros, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This shift comes at a time when the US labour market is showing mixed signals, and inflation continues to stay above the Fed’s 2% target.

Recent US data revealed that the PCE inflation index—the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation measure—rose 0.3% in September, matching August’s growth. Year-on-year, PCE inflation climbed 2.8%, slightly above the prior month’s 2.7%.

The labour market remains uncertain:

• Private payrolls fell by 32,000 in November, marking the steepest decline in over 2.5 years.

• However, jobless claims dropped to 1,91,000, the lowest level in more than three years, defying expectations.

While expectations of rate cuts typically boost gold prices, the metal’s rise is currently being restrained by firmer US Treasury yields, with the 10-year bond yield hitting a 2.5-month high earlier this week.
