Vinesh Phogat ends her 18-month retirement and announces her comeback to wrestling after Paris Olympics heartbreak, aiming for the LA28 Olympics with renewed determination.
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has officially ended her retirement and announced her return to professional wrestling after an 18-month break, following the heartbreak and controversy at the Paris Olympics. On December 12, Vinesh shared her decision on Instagram, expressing her determination to continue chasing her Olympic dream.
Reflecting on Her Journey
In a heartfelt post, Vinesh revealed that the break gave her time to reflect on her career and plan her next steps. “I needed to step away from the mat, the pressure, the expectations, and even my own ambitions. For the first time in years, I allowed myself to breathe,” she wrote. She emphasized that during this time, she realized her passion for wrestling remained strong, stating, “The fire never left. The discipline, the routine, the fight… it’s in my system.”

Balancing Motherhood and Wrestling
Vinesh, who welcomed a baby boy in July 2025, shared that her son will now be her biggest motivation and cheerleader as she embarks on the second chapter of her wrestling career. “And this time, I’m not walking alone. My son is joining my team, my little cheerleader on this road to the LA Olympics,” she added.
Political Achievements
Apart from wrestling, Vinesh also ventured into politics. She won the Julana constituency in the Haryana Assembly elections last year with a margin of 6,000 votes, showcasing her versatility both on and off the mat.
Vinesh Phogat’s return marks her as one of the elite Indian athletes to make a comeback to competitive sports after giving birth. With the LA28 Olympics on the horizon, the wrestler is determined to reclaim her spot among the world’s top competitors.
