India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal rushed to hospital after Mumbai’s SMAT 2025-26 match due to acute gastroenteritis. Doctors advise rest before India’s ODI series against New Zealand.
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was rushed to the hospital following Mumbai’s final match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025-26, as he suffered from severe stomach cramps. The incident occurred while the cricketing world was focused on the IPL 2026 auction at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
Hospitalization and Diagnosis
According to reports, Jaiswal experienced worsening stomach cramps after Mumbai’s Super League match against Rajasthan at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The 21-year-old left-handed batter was immediately admitted to Aditya Birla Hospital, where he was diagnosed with acute gastroenteritis.
Doctors administered intravenous medication and conducted ultrasound (USG) and CT scans to ensure there were no underlying complications. He has been advised to continue medication and take adequate rest before resuming training or competitive play.

Mumbai’s Exit from SMAT 2025-26
Despite a valiant effort chasing 217 runs to beat Rajasthan, Mumbai failed to qualify for the tournament final. Jaiswal batted in visible discomfort, scoring 15 runs off 16 deliveries with three boundaries.
The team’s victory was largely credited to the exceptional performances of Ajinkya Rahane and Sarfaraz Khan. Rahane remained unbeaten on 72 off 41 balls, while Sarfaraz smashed 73 runs off 22 balls at a phenomenal strike rate of 331.81, hitting six fours and seven sixes. Sarfaraz’s performance also earned him an IPL contract with Chennai Super Kings during the ongoing auction.
Jaiswal’s Performance in SMAT
In the tournament, Jaiswal scored 145 runs in three matches at an average of 48.33 and a strike rate of 168.6 for Mumbai. Despite not being part of India’s T20I squad, the star opener’s form was closely watched by fans and selectors alike.
With no immediate international commitments, Jaiswal is expected to get sufficient rest as advised by doctors, ahead of India’s ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on January 11, 2026.
