AAP leader Pravin Ram, jailed for fighting farmers’ rights, was denied a birthday meeting by Rajkot District Jail authorities; Gopal Italia raises concerns over injustice and arbitrary restrictions.
AAP leader Pravin Ram, who is enduring hardships in jail while fighting for farmers’ rights, could not meet his family on his birthday today, December 31, 2025. Despite the visit by AAP MLA Gopal Italia, Pravin Ram’s father, and uncle to Rajkot District Jail, jail authorities denied them permission for a meeting.
Gopal Italia expressed his disappointment, stating that he, along with Pravin Ram’s family, arrived at the central jail to check on the leader’s health and well-being. Initial formalities, including entry and form submission, were completed, and they were asked to wait. However, when it was time for the meeting, an official stated, “Gopal Italia will not be allowed to meet, and if insisted, nobody will be allowed.”
Gopal Italia further revealed that he requested a meeting in his capacity as a lawyer, which is legally permissible, but the jail authorities refused, claiming, “We have orders from above.” Repeated requests to follow proper procedure were ignored, highlighting alleged arbitrariness in jail administration.

Highlighting Injustice Against Farmer Leaders
Gopal Italia condemned the situation, stating, “While leaders like Pravin Ram and Raju Karpra are jailed for fighting for farmers, drug traffickers and corrupt individuals roam freely. Even recently, Pravin Ram missed his own son’s first birthday due to imprisonment. This is a grave injustice.” He emphasized that the ruling authorities are allowing leniency for criminals while restricting access to legally entitled meetings for political leaders and activists.
He prayed for Pravin Ram and other jailed farmer leaders like Raju Karpra and Amit Mer, wishing them strength to continue their fight for justice. Italia reiterated that the AAP stands firmly alongside these leaders in their struggle for farmers’ rights and accountability in governance.
The incident raises serious questions about transparency and administrative arbitrariness in Gujarat’s prison system, bringing national attention to the treatment of jailed activists fighting for social causes.
