BBL 2025-26: Perth Scorchers’ Ashton Agar, Aaron Hardie, Laurie Evans, and Mahli Beardman push broken Uber to reach Sydney Showground Stadium before defeating Sydney Thunder by 71 runs.
In a bizarre turn of events during the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26, Perth Scorchers players Ashton Agar and Aaron Hardie were forced to push a broken Uber to reach Sydney Showground Stadium for their match against the Sydney Thunder on December 30, 2025.
The two, along with teammates Laurie Evans and Mahli Beardman, were traveling together when their taxi unexpectedly broke down in the middle of the journey. The quartet got out of the car and pushed it to the side of the road before continuing their way to the stadium, creating a humorous moment widely discussed during the live broadcast.
During the match commentary, Laurie Evans, fielding with an earpiece, shared: “We took an Uber, but it broke down, so we had to give them a hand to move it to the side. It was a different way to arrive, but it was good fun.”

The commentators jokingly confirmed if the players had actually pushed the car themselves, to which Evans replied: “Yes, there were four of us – me, Hards, Mahli, and Ashton Agar.”
Despite the unusual start to their day, the Perth Scorchers dominated the match. Batting first under Ashton Turner’s leadership, they posted 202/8 in 20 overs, with Turner smashing 99 not out off 41 balls, including eight fours and eight sixes. The Sydney Thunder struggled in response, being bowled out for 131 in 17.3 overs, resulting in a 71-run victory for the Scorchers.
Turner’s outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, while the taxi-pushing incident became one of the most talked-about moments of the game.
