Haryana government launches scheme to promote herbal farming, supporting farmers cultivating medicinal plants like Amla, Aloe Vera, Ashwagandha, Tulsi, and Turmeric.
The Haryana government is set to introduce a new scheme to promote the cultivation of medicinal plants, aiming to support farmers and strengthen the herbal industry in the state. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini directed the Haryana Herbal Cooperative Federation (Herbal Fed) to formulate a comprehensive action plan for farmers engaged in herbal farming.
During a high-level meeting with Herbal Fed officials, CM Nayab Saini emphasized the need to provide better market access to farmers cultivating medicinal plants. A detailed record of farmers, along with the land area used for herbal cultivation, will be prepared to create clusters of herbal farmers across Haryana.

Key Medicinal Crops Targeted:
Currently, Haryana has approximately 4,557 hectares under medicinal plant cultivation. The key crops include Amla (Indian gooseberry), Aloe Vera, Stevia, Mulethi (Licorice), Shatavari, Tulsi (Holy Basil), Ashwagandha, Harad, Belpatra (Bael leaves), and Turmeric.
CM Nayab Saini highlighted the potential of Ayurvedic medicines as a source of employment and their cost-effectiveness, noting the importance of streamlining procurement processes and improving trade mechanisms.
To facilitate farmer engagement, the Herbal Fed has launched an e-medicine portal. So far, 4,500 farmers and 118 Ayurvedic medicine manufacturers have registered on the portal, connecting producers directly with the market.
The Chief Minister Nayab saini also instructed officials to prepare a detailed report on the cultivation of different medicinal plants based on land area and type, ensuring organized growth and systematic development of the herbal farming sector.
