“UP CM Yogi Adityanath directs a modern seed policy to enhance per-hectare productivity, focusing on high-yield, disease-resistant, and climate-adapted seeds for sustainable farming in Uttar Pradesh.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for the formulation of a modern seed policy to enhance per-hectare productivity across the state. The Modern Seed Policy will prioritize high-yield, disease-resistant, and climate-adapted seed varieties to empower farmers and strengthen agricultural output.
During a high-level meeting with state officials on Monday, CM Yogi emphasized that the true potential of agriculture lies in high-quality, certified, and reliable seeds. With the continuous reduction of landholdings, the focus, he said, should not only be on acreage but on improving productivity per hectare.

Addressing Farming Challenges
The CM stressed that the new Modern Seed Policy should focus on developing varieties that are high-yielding, resistant to diseases, and adaptable to climate variations. Such varieties, he explained, would help farmers tackle upcoming agricultural challenges effectively.
Yogi Adityanath also highlighted the need for a five-year roadmap to enhance UP’s seed production capacity, quality, and availability. He advocated for leveraging modern technology at every stage of seed production, processing, and storage to ensure no shortage of certified seeds and to empower farmers across the state.
Mandatory End-to-End Traceability
To ensure a reliable seed supply, the Chief Minister directed that end-to-end traceability be made mandatory for all seeds. He warned that there will be zero tolerance for adulterated or substandard seeds. Each seed packet reaching farmers must be certified, tested, and compliant with established standards.
Furthermore, CM Yogi stressed speeding up seed research, innovation, and the release of new varieties. He suggested creating a common platform involving agricultural universities, ICAR institutes, UPCAR, and private seed industries to streamline processes and enhance collaboration.
With this initiative, Uttar Pradesh aims to not only secure farmers’ livelihoods but also increase overall agricultural productivity, ensuring sustainable and climate-resilient farming for the future.
