Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday highlighted the progress of India Medical Research Innovation, saying that the country is setting new standards in healthcare through indigenous technologies, gene therapy, nuclear medicine, and advanced medical solutions.
Addressing the 22nd convocation ceremony of King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, Singh said that India’s healthcare system has become more self-reliant, accessible, affordable, and focused on modern solutions.
India Developing Advanced Healthcare Solutions
Rajnath Singh said that India Medical Research Innovation is helping the country address global health challenges through locally developed technologies. He highlighted advancements in gene therapy, nuclear medicine, and other areas of medical science.
The Defence Minister said Indian scientists have successfully developed indigenous gene therapy for treating haemophilia, while researchers in Pune have developed nanomedicine for breast cancer treatment.
CAR-T Therapy Marks Major Achievement
Highlighting another milestone in medical science, Singh praised India’s development of affordable CAR-T cell therapy for cancer treatment.
CAR-T therapy is an advanced immunotherapy that reprograms a patient’s own immune cells to identify and destroy cancer cells. The treatment is mainly used for blood cancers like leukaemia and lymphoma.
According to Singh, such achievements reflect the growing strength of India Medical Research Innovation and the country’s ability to create cost-effective healthcare solutions.
Boost to Indigenous Medical Equipment Manufacturing
The Defence Minister said that schemes like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programme have provided momentum to the manufacturing of medical equipment in India.
He also mentioned the development of Nafithromycin, India’s first indigenous macrolide antibiotic, and the country’s first indigenous MRI machine, which is affordable, lightweight, and advanced.

Affordable Healthcare Access Across India
Rajnath Singh said that more than 19,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are providing quality medicines at affordable prices to people across the country.
He added that the government’s vision is not limited to providing medical treatment but aims to create a healthcare system that is accessible, affordable, and quality-driven.
Uttar Pradesh Healthcare Infrastructure Expands
Speaking about Uttar Pradesh, Singh said healthcare infrastructure in the state has witnessed major growth. He stated that the number of medical colleges has increased significantly and the state now has two AIIMS institutions.
He also praised improvements in healthcare services under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Focus on Future Medical Growth
The progress of India Medical Research Innovation shows the country’s growing capability in developing advanced treatments, medical technologies, and affordable healthcare solutions.
Rajnath Singh also encouraged doctors and medical professionals to focus on their own health while working in a challenging environment and urged society to create greater awareness about organ donation.
