Dr. Ravjot Singh inaugurates Aam Aadmi Clinic inside Hoshiarpur Central Jail, offering free tests, medicines and healthcare services to inmates.

Punjab Jails and NRI Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh inaugurated a newly established Aam Aadmi Clinic inside Hoshiarpur Central Jail, marking a major step towards improving healthcare access for inmates. In a unique gesture, the minister invited an inmate to officially inaugurate the facility.

Dr. Ravjot Singh said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working towards making quality healthcare accessible to every section of society. He added that the Aam Aadmi Clinic model, which has transformed primary healthcare in Punjab, is now being expanded to prison facilities as well.

Punjab Now Has 1,090 Aam Aadmi Clinics

Highlighting the progress of the healthcare initiative, Dr. Ravjot Singh said that Punjab currently has 1,090 Aam Aadmi Clinics providing free primary healthcare services to people across the state.

He said these clinics have strengthened the healthcare system by offering medical consultations, diagnostic facilities, and free medicines through trained healthcare professionals.

Free Medical Tests and Medicines for Jail Inmates

The newly opened clinic at Hoshiarpur Central Jail will provide inmates with access to 45 types of diagnostic tests and more than 100 essential medicines free of cost.

The minister said this facility will reduce the need to take inmates outside the jail for routine medical check-ups and treatment, making healthcare delivery faster and more efficient within the prison premises.

Over 1,400 Inmates to Benefit

Dr. Ravjot Singh informed that more than 1,400 inmates lodged at Hoshiarpur Central Jail will benefit from the new healthcare facility.

The clinic has been equipped with a dedicated team including a Medical Officer, Pharmacist, Clinic Assistant, and Helper to ensure regular and quality healthcare services for prisoners.

Aam Aadmi Clinics Expanded Across Punjab Prisons

The minister Dr. Ravjot Singh said that Punjab has now established Aam Aadmi Clinics in eight prisons across the state, ensuring that inmates also receive timely medical attention and basic healthcare facilities.

He added that the initiative reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to providing healthcare services without discrimination and ensuring dignity for every citizen.

Nearly 5.90 Crore Patients Benefited from Clinics

While discussing the achievements of the Aam Aadmi Clinic initiative, Dr. Ravjot Singh said that nearly 5.90 crore patients have received treatment through these clinics across Punjab so far.

He further stated that around 3.5 crore diagnostic tests have been conducted through the clinic network, helping people access affordable and convenient healthcare services.

Officials Review Clinic Facilities

During the inauguration event, Jail Superintendent Harcharan Singh Gill and Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal briefed the minister about the clinic’s infrastructure, medical facilities, and staffing arrangements.

The event was also attended by Additional Superintendent Harbans Singh, Deputy Superintendent Asha Rani, Urban Nodal Officer for Aam Aadmi Clinics Dr. Rohit Babuta, and District Program Manager (NHM) Mohammad Asif.

Dr. Ravjot Singh said that the expansion of Aam Aadmi Clinics inside prisons represents another milestone in Punjab’s healthcare reforms and will ensure that inmates receive accessible, free, and reliable medical care.
