AAP leader Himanshu Thakkar criticised Gujarat’s education performance and called for major reforms after raising concerns over school rankings.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticised the Gujarat government over the state’s performance in education, with party spokesperson Himanshu Thakkar alleging that Gujarat has failed to secure a place among the country’s top-performing districts in the Performance Grading Index (PGI) assessment conducted by the Union Ministry of Education.

Addressing a press conference, Himanshu Thakkar claimed that Gujarat’s performance reflects the urgent need for reforms in the state’s education system and questioned the government’s priorities in the education sector.

Calls for Greater Focus on Quality Education

According to Himanshu Thakkar, education should remain a top priority for every government, as it plays a key role in shaping the country’s future. He argued that despite various government programmes and public expenditure, significant improvements in learning outcomes and school infrastructure are still required.

He also claimed that students continue to face challenges related to educational resources and quality learning opportunities.

Compares Gujarat With Other States

The AAP leader Himanshu Thakkar said that Delhi, Punjab and Kerala have emerged among the better-performing states in education and credited the education reforms introduced in Delhi and Punjab for improving school infrastructure and academic outcomes.

He alleged that Gujarat has not achieved similar progress despite being governed by the BJP for several years.

Appeals for Education Reforms

Himanshu Thakkar called for comprehensive reforms in Gujarat’s education system, saying improvements should focus on school infrastructure, teacher support, quality learning, skill development and innovation.
