AAP leaders Payal Sakariya and Rachna Hirpara raised concerns over basic facilities at Digas village government school in Gujarat’s Kamrej.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Gujarat leaders Payal Sakariya and corporator Rachna Hirpara visited the primary school and Anganwadi in Digas village of Kamrej taluka and raised concerns over the condition of basic facilities available to students.

During the visit, Payal Sakariya, president of the AAP Gujarat women’s wing and former Leader of Opposition in the Surat Municipal Corporation, said the condition of the government school requires attention from the authorities. Rachna Hirpara, vice-president of the party’s women’s wing and a serving corporator, accompanied her during the visit.

AAP Leaders Highlight Lack of Basic Facilities

According to Payal Sakariya, the primary school has only two rooms for students from Classes 1 to 5. She questioned whether such infrastructure is sufficient for children studying at the school.

She also raised concerns about cleanliness around the school, the condition of the drinking water tank and sanitation facilities. According to her, the school lacks several basic amenities required to provide students with a safe and comfortable learning environment.

Concerns Over Drinking Water and Cleanliness

Sakariya alleged that the condition of the school’s water tank was poor and claimed that lizards were found inside it. She also pointed to unhygienic conditions around the premises and raised concerns about the potential impact of poor sanitation on children.

She further claimed that the school does not have adequate benches for students and that the toilets and bathrooms are not in usable condition.

Questions Over Gujarat’s Education Claims

The AAP leader questioned the contrast between government claims regarding quality education and the situation she observed at the rural school.

She said that while the government speaks about Samagra Shiksha Gujarat, quality education and world-class facilities for children, basic infrastructure remains a concern in some rural government schools.

Sakariya argued that providing proper classrooms, clean drinking water, functional toilets, furniture and a hygienic environment should be a basic priority for every school.

‘Every Child Deserves Better Education Facilities’

Sakariya said the issue was being raised from the perspective of children and their education rather than for political purposes. She stressed that ensuring a safe and quality learning environment for every child is the responsibility of the government and local administration.

She questioned how children in rural areas can receive quality education if basic facilities are not available at their schools.

Demand for Immediate Improvement

The AAP leaders urged the government and local administration to take steps to improve the condition of the Digas village primary school.

They called for better sanitation, safe drinking water, functional toilets, adequate classroom facilities and other essential infrastructure so that children can study in a clean and secure environment.

The visit has also brought attention to the broader issue of infrastructure and basic amenities in rural government schools in Gujarat.
