Arvind Kejriwal urges the Centre to offer E20, E10 and E0 fuel options at petrol pumps and allow consumers to choose their preferred fuel.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has called on the Central Government to provide motorists with multiple fuel options, including E20, E10 and E0, at petrol stations across the country. Raising concerns over the nationwide promotion of E20 Fuel, Kejriwal said consumers should have the freedom to choose the fuel blend best suited to their vehicles.

Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal alleged that the Centre is aggressively promoting E20 Fuel despite reservations expressed by sections of the public. According to him, many vehicle owners remain concerned about the long-term impact of ethanol-blended fuel on engine performance and fuel efficiency.

The AAP leader further claimed that the government has been making efforts to convince people that E20 Fuel is completely safe for all vehicles. He alleged that representatives of six leading automobile manufacturers were reportedly asked to reassure consumers about the compatibility of ethanol-blended petrol.

The companies mentioned by Arvind Kejriwal included Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Hero MotoCorp, Hyundai Motor Company, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor Company. He alleged that these companies were encouraged to publicly endorse the use of E20 Fuel and address consumer concerns.

Arvind Kejriwal also questioned who would be held accountable if motorists experience reduced mileage or vehicle-related issues after switching to ethanol-blended petrol. He stated that he plans to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking clarity on the matter and demanding greater transparency regarding the policy.

Urging the government to provide flexibility to consumers, he suggested that petrol pumps should offer E20, E10 and E0 variants separately, allowing people to make informed choices based on their vehicle specifications and personal preferences. He argued that introducing multiple options would address public concerns while ensuring fair access to different fuel blends.

Meanwhile, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has dismissed claims circulating on social media that E20 Fuel harms vehicle engines or causes other technical issues. The minister described such claims as misinformation and urged citizens to rely on scientific studies and verified data rather than rumors.

The Central Government has been actively promoting ethanol blending as part of its broader energy strategy. Officials believe that expanding the use of E20 Fuel can help reduce India’s dependence on imported crude oil, lower carbon emissions and provide additional support to the domestic agricultural sector through increased demand for ethanol production.

As discussions around ethanol-blended petrol continue, the debate over E20 Fuel is expected to remain a significant policy issue, balancing environmental goals, energy security and consumer concerns. The government’s push for cleaner fuels and the opposition’s demand for greater consumer choice are likely to keep the topic in the spotlight in the coming months.
