Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the police response to student protests in Bihar. Referring to reports of an AK-47 being fired during unrest in Siwan, Arvind Kejriwal questioned the government’s handling of the situation and urged authorities not to suppress student voices.
Arvind Kejriwal Questions Police Response
In a post on X, Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP-led establishment of taking an excessive approach against students protesting over alleged examination irregularities and the NEET paper leak controversy.
He questioned why such force was used against students and recalled the historic student-led movement in Bihar under Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. Referring to the famous slogan, “Vacate the throne, for the people are coming,” Arvind Kejriwal warned that governments should not underestimate the power of student movements.

Student Protest Turns Violent in Siwan
The controversy stems from protests held in Bihar’s Siwan district, where students demonstrated against alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. According to officials, the protest escalated after clashes broke out between demonstrators and police.
Authorities reportedly used tear gas shells and conducted a lathi charge after incidents of stone-pelting. During the unrest, a police constable allegedly fired four rounds into the air using an AK-47 rifle.
The incident quickly became a political flashpoint, with opposition leaders criticizing the administration’s handling of the protest.
Police Suspend Constable
The Bihar Police confirmed that the constable involved in the firing has been suspended and departmental proceedings have been initiated.
District officials stated that the officer was part of a District Intelligence Unit (DIU) team traveling through JP Chowk while investigating an unrelated murder case. According to the administration, the officer became surrounded by protesters and discharged four warning shots into the air.
Officials also clarified that the use of the AK-47 was unauthorized and inappropriate for crowd-control situations.
Political Debate Intensifies
The incident has intensified the political debate in Bihar, with opposition parties demanding accountability for the police action. Questions have also been raised regarding the use of firearms during public protests and whether standard crowd-control protocols were followed.
The state government has yet to issue a detailed response to the political criticism, while the investigation into the incident and the constable’s conduct remains underway.
