Arvind Kejriwal targets PM Modi after Jalandhar rally, with AAP raising questions over Punjab funds, farmers’ issues and drug-related concerns.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his rally in Jalandhar, where the Prime Minister attacked the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government and raised issues related to governance and drugs.
Reacting to PM Modi’s remarks, Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the BJP leadership was trying to lecture Punjab on honesty while avoiding questions on important issues concerning the state. He shared his reaction through a post on social media platform X soon after the Prime Minister’s address.
AAP Accuses BJP of Avoiding Punjab’s Key Concerns
In a statement, the Aam Aadmi Party claimed that the BJP had no moral right to criticise Punjab, alleging that the party’s previous government-backed administration had failed to control issues like drugs and law and order.
The party accused the Prime Minister of focusing on political allegations instead of discussing matters such as financial dues, farmers’ concerns and development-related issues.
AAP Raises Questions Over Drug Issue
Responding to PM Modi’s comments on the drug problem in Punjab, AAP leaders questioned the BJP over drug seizures reported at Gujarat’s Mundra Port.
The party said that before raising questions about Punjab, the BJP should explain how large quantities of illegal substances reached ports under its watch. AAP alleged that the issue should not be used only for political attacks but requires serious action.

Baltej Pannu Attacks BJP’s Double Engine Pitch
AAP Punjab media in-charge Baltej Pannu also reacted to PM Modi’s appeal for a “double engine government”. He said Punjab had already experienced BJP-backed governance between 2014 and 2017 and claimed that the period witnessed a rise in drug-related issues and gangster activities.
Pannu alleged that the Prime Minister was ignoring the past record of BJP governments while making political statements against the current Punjab government.
Harpal Singh Cheema Highlights Pending Funds
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said people of the state had expected the Prime Minister’s visit to bring announcements regarding pending financial matters.
He claimed that Punjab is awaiting thousands of crores in pending funds from the Centre, including dues related to development and relief measures. Cheema alleged that instead of addressing these concerns, the Prime Minister focused on political criticism.
The AAP leaders maintained that Punjab needs cooperation and financial support from the Centre rather than political accusations, while the BJP has defended PM Modi’s remarks and continued to raise questions over the Punjab government’s performance.
