Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann accuses BJP of ED misuse and defamation notices, vows sacrilege law will not be withdrawn and defends Punjab unity.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday launched a strong attack against the BJP-led Central Government, alleging that central agencies and legal notices are being misused as political tools ahead of elections. Speaking at a press conference in Sangrur, he said his government would not be intimidated by defamation notices or investigative pressure.
Mann accused the ruling party, Bharatiya Janata Party, of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other mechanisms to target opposition leaders. He claimed that such tactics intensify during election periods, creating an atmosphere of fear and political pressure.
“We do not care about defamation notices. The Centre is doing injustice to Punjab, and these tactics must stop,” Mann stated, asserting that Punjabis would respond strongly to any perceived unfair treatment.
The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also addressed concerns over Punjab’s social harmony, emphasizing that the state’s cultural unity cannot be disrupted. He said Punjab has historically remained resilient against attempts to divide communities and that hatred cannot take root in the region.
“Punjab is a land of unity and brotherhood. No matter how hard anyone tries, communal harmony here cannot be broken,” he said.
A key highlight of his address was the reaffirmation of the state government’s stance on the sacrilege law. Bhagwant Mann made it clear that the legislation would not be withdrawn under any circumstances, stressing that strict action against sacrilege is widely supported, except by a few political families.
He also criticized political developments in other states, referencing West Bengal while claiming that instability is often projected during transitions of power.
Bhagwant Mann =further alleged that Punjab has faced consistent discrimination from the Centre, adding that the people of the state are aware of such issues and will respond democratically.
The remarks come amid rising political tensions between the Punjab government and the Centre, with both sides increasingly engaging in sharp exchanges over governance, law enforcement, and federal relations.
