Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann hits out at the CBI raids, calls the agency a BJP “puppet” and says his OSD will respond to the summons.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly criticised the BJP-led Central government over the recent CBI raids at multiple locations in Punjab, alleging that the investigation agency is being used to target political opponents. Mann claimed that the CBI found nothing substantial during the searches and asserted that the Punjab government has nothing to hide.
The Chief Minister also confirmed that his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) will respond to the summons issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Bhagwant Mann Calls CBI a ‘Puppet’ of BJP Government
Speaking to reporters in Dhuri before laying the foundation stone of a water treatment plant, Bhagwant Mann accused the BJP-led Centre of using agencies such as the CBI and Enforcement Directorate as political tools.
Mann alleged that central investigative agencies are being deployed in states where elections are approaching. According to him, the latest action in Punjab is part of a broader political strategy aimed at creating pressure on the state government and people associated with it.
The Punjab CM described the CBI as a “puppet” of the BJP government and claimed that the agency would eventually leave Punjab after finding nothing against the people being investigated.
OSD Will Reply to CBI Summons
Reacting to the summons issued to his OSD, Bhagwant Mann said that a response would be submitted to the investigating agency.
He maintained that the summons did not indicate wrongdoing and said the government would cooperate with the process while continuing to question what he described as politically motivated action.
Mann also alleged that the BJP was attempting to target people associated with the Aam Aadmi Party government, including ministers, relatives and officials.
‘BJP Wants to Enter Punjab Through Agencies’
Mann claimed that the BJP was trying to strengthen its political presence in Punjab by relying on central agencies rather than raising issues that directly concern voters.
According to the Chief Minister, the BJP’s anti-drug campaign in the state had failed to receive the response it expected. He alleged that the party was now turning to agencies such as the CBI, ED and Election Commission to put pressure on its political opponents.
Bhagwant Mann further claimed that similar tactics had been used in states such as Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Delhi.

Mann Cites Cases Against AAP Leaders
The Punjab Chief Minister referred to investigations involving senior AAP leaders, including party national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Mann alleged that opposition leaders were arrested or investigated before elections but that the cases did not ultimately produce the results claimed by their political opponents.
He argued that Punjab could witness a similar situation and said the people of the state would not accept attempts to influence its political direction through investigative agencies.
Questions Speed of CBI Action
Bhagwant Mann also questioned the timing of the CBI’s action, pointing out that the matter was before the Supreme Court while the agency proceeded with raids within a short period.
He questioned why some cases remain pending with investigative agencies for years while action was taken so quickly in the Punjab matter.
“Many cases have been pending with the CBI for 20 years, but no action is being taken in them,” Mann said while questioning the agency’s approach.
‘Nothing Will Come Out’ of Investigation, Says Mann
Mann maintained that the raids would not result in anything against the Punjab government or its leaders. He accused the BJP of attempting to put pressure on Punjab to gain political advantage.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government would respond to the CBI process wherever required but would continue to oppose what he described as the misuse of central agencies for political purposes.
With the CBI investigation underway and the OSD expected to respond to the summons, the political confrontation between the Punjab government and the Centre is likely to remain a major issue in the state’s political discourse.
