Under the chairmanship of CM Bhajan Sharma, a Cabinet and Council of Ministers meeting was held on Sunday at the CM’s office, where several key decisions were taken.
These included providing 150 units of free electricity to beneficiaries of CM Bhajan Free Electricity Scheme through solar power, revising the Sewerage and Wastewater Policy-2016 to ensure a systematic sewage system in all urban areas, introducing the Rajasthan Illegal Religious Conversion Prohibition Bill-2025, and expediting recruitment in RajSesh colleges to improve the quality of education.
Deputy CM Dr. Premchand Bairwa, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel, and Food & Civil Supplies Minister Sumit Godara informed the media that the state government is taking a unique initiative to make electricity consumers “energy providers” by promoting affordable and accessible solar energy. Soon, the PM Suryaghar 150 Units Free Electricity Scheme will be implemented in Rajasthan, benefiting over 1.04 crore registered domestic consumers, who will now receive 150 free units per month instead of 100 units.
The state government had already announced in the 2025–26 Budget that rooftop solar panels would be installed under the PM Suryaghar scheme to provide 150 units of free monthly electricity. For families without suitable rooftops, community solar plants will be set up.
For households consuming over 150 units monthly, rooftop solar panels with a capacity of 1.1 kW will be installed at no cost, with ₹33,000 subsidy from the Centre and ₹17,000 subsidy from the state, making the system completely free. This will cover nearly 27 lakh families and generate an additional 3,000 MW of solar power.
For those consuming less than 150 units monthly, rooftop solar systems will be installed free of cost for families with rooftops, while community solar plants with virtual net metering will ensure free electricity for families without rooftops.
As an incentive, the first 10 lakh beneficiaries will also receive ₹1,100 each via DBT from DISCOMs.
Other major decisions included:
-
Increasing the number of LED streetlights in urban bodies from 1 lakh to 2 lakh (with an outlay of ₹160 crore).
-
Approving 4,724 new teaching and non-teaching contract posts in RajSesh colleges to ensure quality education.
-
Amending the Sewerage and Wastewater Policy-2016 to improve sewage management, ensure water reuse, and align with Swachh Bharat Mission and Namami Gange projects.
-
Approval of the Rajasthan Illegal Religious Conversion Prohibition Bill-2025, which proposes strict penalties (up to life imprisonment and heavy fines) against forced, fraudulent, or induced conversions.
-
Introducing new service rules for the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board to streamline recruitment and promotion opportunities across various departments.
