Under the leadership of CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Rajasthan is moving towards a new green revolution on the path of ‘Sankalp se Siddhi’. The state government has set a target of planting 10 crore saplings across the state in the monsoon this year under the ‘Hariyalo Rajasthan Vriksharopan Mahabhiyan’. So far, more than 50 lakh 87 thousand saplings have been planted at more than 54,900 locations. It is worth mentioning that last year also a historic task of planting 7 crore saplings was completed under this campaign.
The government is taking this movement as a people’s movement. ‘Mother Forests’ are being developed in every district with the participation of the common people, which are not only a symbol of environmental protection but are also associated with social sentiments. This campaign is also being linked to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s’ Ek Vridh Maa Ke Naam “initiative and making it more widespread.
Target of 50 crore plants in five years
Under ‘Mission Hariyalo Rajasthan’, it has been resolved to plant 50 crore saplings in the next five years. Combining this initiative with technology, ‘Hariyalo Rajasthan Mobile App’ has also been developed, so that every plant can be monitored. From plantation to tree formation, a record of their safety, care and condition is being kept through this app. This initiative is a milestone in taking the state towards a green and sustainable future.
‘Mother Forest ‘- a campaign with the participation of every citizen
As per the State Government’s Budget 2024-25 announcement, ‘Matru Van “is being set up in every district. In these forests being built on the lines of Smriti Van, people can become partners in environmental conservation by planting trees in the memory of their loved ones. This campaign is becoming a symbol of public participation by encouraging plantation on birthdays, anniversaries or any special occasion.
The history of planting trees in one day
On the occasion of Hariyali Teej on 7th August 2024, Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma launched the ‘Ek Tree Maa Ke Naam’ campaign in Dudu area of Jaipur district. The state had received a target of planting 3 crore saplings from the central government, but 7 crore 35 lakh saplings were planted with the active participation of the people of the state. Houses, farms, office premises, schools, colleges, and even roadsides were planted with saplings. Rajasthan created a new record by planting more than one crore saplings on this day, which was also certified by the World Book of Records, London.
Along with planting saplings on 80 thousand hectares of forest land, the people of the state also took a pledge that the planted saplings will be completely saved till the trees are formed.
5 million trees to be planted by 2025
Between 1st April to 3rd July 2025, a total of more than 50 lakh saplings were planted by various departments:
MGNREGA: 29.68 lakh plants
Panchayati Raj and Rural Development: 13.25 lakh plants
Forest Department: 2.72 lakh plants
Catchment Department: 1.43 lakh plants
Horticulture Department: 1.25 lakh plants
‘Hariyalo Rajasthan ‘is not just a tree plantation programme, but an environmental movement involving public participation, which is moving towards establishing Rajasthan as a green state by moving beyond the desert identity.
