Recalling the sacrifices made in protecting Indian democracy and the Constitution, CM Yogi Adityanath remembered the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as’ Constitution Killing Day ‘and lashed out at the policies of the Congress. ”
CM Yogi Adityanath said that India attained independence on 15th August 1947 and adopted the Constitution on 26th January 1950 laying the foundation of the democratic system. The Constitution made under the leadership of Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar gives equal rights and voting rights to every citizen of India. But on June 25, 1975, the Congress government led by Indira Gandhi, by imposing Emergency, not only suppressed the Constitution but also tried to crush democracy.
“During the Emergency, lakhs of people were arrested, press censorship was imposed, judiciary and executive were controlled and fundamental freedoms were suppressed. All this was done just to save power, which was against democratic values. The Chief Minister alleged that the Congress insulted the contribution of Dr Ambedkar and hurt his soul by amending the Constitution.
Referring to some of the opposition leaders like Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, CM Yogi Adityanath said they fought against dictatorship and protected democracy. He also criticised that some leaders are today standing with the Congress, which has been involved in anti-democratic activities in the past.
He stressed that we should learn from history and tell the future generation who had worked to crush democracy. The Chief Minister announced that arrangements would be made for cashless treatment of democracy fighters and pension to them had already been increased. He called upon the democracy fighters to expose the anti-constitutional elements at the district level.
CM Yogi Adityanath concluded by saying that today when the country is moving towards’ Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat ‘under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we must strengthen our faith in the Constitution while protecting democratic values.
