Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting at his official residence today to review the economic situation, development structure and revenue resources of the state. He described the economic journey of the state as moving from “prospects to results” and said it was driven by the vision of a developed India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
CM Yogi Adityanath said that the economy of the state was no longer limited to the growth of statistics, but it had become a powerful evidence of change on the ground. As per the data presented in the meeting, the Gross Domestic Product (GSDP) of the State is estimated to reach Rs. 29.6 lakh crore in 2024-25, showing an increase of about 80% over 2020-21. Uttar Pradesh’s share in the national economy has increased from 8.4 per cent to 8.9 per cent in the same period. The Chief Minister described it as a concrete achievement towards Atmanirbhar Uttar Pradesh and called for a strategy to take this share to 10% by the year 2026.
CM Yogi Adityanath said that the change in the economic structure of the state is clearly visible. While the participation of manufacturing and service sectors is steadily increasing, the dependence on agriculture is gradually decreasing. Describing ‘Make in UP’ as the basis of the industrial strategy for the coming decade, he directed to promote the establishment of new industries in rural and semi-urban areas.
The Agriculture Sector Survey states that foodgrain production is estimated to reach 722 LMT in 2024-25, which is 100 LMT more than 2020-21. However, there is a huge difference in productivity between the districts – In some districts, the yield of wheat is 46 quintals per hectare, while in some it is limited to 30 quintals. Considering this as an imbalance, the Chief Minister directed to bridge this gap with technical assistance and awareness campaigns.
In the animal husbandry sector, CM Yogi Adityanath described the state as a leader in milk production, while also talking about improving egg production. He said that improvement in productivity per animal is more important than total production, for which breed improvement, better feed management and regular data analysis are necessary.
The review of the manufacturing sector revealed that the number of registered factories in the state has crossed 27,000 in 2024-25. The Chief Minister directed to ensure equitable industrial development in the districts and enhance the capacity of the District Industries Centres, thereby providing employment to the local youth and more revenue to the state.
The state has also achieved remarkable success in the field of IT services. IT services exports worth Rs 46,800 crore in 2024-25 through STPI, which is 40% higher than 2021-22. Terming it as a big opportunity for the youth, the Chief Minister also indicated improvement in tourism, hotel and business services, especially post-COVID tourism.
A review of major revenue sources such as GST and Excise revealed that GST collections in the year 2024-25 stood at over Rs. 1.49 lakh crore, an increase of 6.6%, while excise yielded a revenue of Rs.52,574 crore – an increase of 15% YoY. Terming it as a sign of revenue self-reliance, the Chief Minister said that the income from these will be helpful in the expansion of service and social schemes.
Reviewing the transport sector, CM Yogi Adityanath described it as a sector with future potential and stressed on setting up new routes for private bus services and thereby increasing both employment and revenue.
CM Yogi Adityanath said that the data of various departments should be accurate and updated. A time-bound, result-oriented roadmap for sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, services, energy and human resources should be prepared and reviewed through the planning department. The Chief Minister said that concrete data forms the strong foundation of policy decisions and this will take Uttar Pradesh forward in the category of developed states.
