CM Yogi Adityanath reviewed the activities of the Labour and Employment Department at a high-level meeting at his official residence today and gave necessary directions to the concerned officials. “Workers and industrialists are allies of each other, not competitors. Industrial development in the state is possible only when the labour laws are balanced keeping in mind the interests of both industries and workers. He stressed on simplification of labour laws to facilitate the industries but also to ensure that workers are not subjected to any kind of exploitation or inhuman treatment.
CM Yogi Adityanath said that to give work to every hand, it is necessary to empower the industries as the expansion of industries is the biggest means to increase employment. Businesses can’t shut down and create jobs. He said workers and their families should get respectable assistance and insurance cover in the event of an accident. The state government aims to make Uttar Pradesh the largest worker-friendly and pro-industry state in the country.
On the problem of child labour, he said that work should be done expeditiously towards rehabilitation of child labourers by connecting them with Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana and sponsored schemes. He described it as a social responsibility as well as a responsibility to give a safe life to the future generations. He also called for continuous monitoring of the quality of Atal Residential Schools.
CM Yogi Adityanath directed to develop Shramik Addas as model ones with facilities like dormitories, toilets, drinking water, canteens and training. He also said that breakfast and meals should be provided to the workers in the canteen for Rs 5-10. Arrangements should be made to ensure minimum honorarium by doing skill mapping of workers in the unorganised sector, so that the unorganised workforce can be converted into an organised labour force.
CM Yogi Adityanath also said that construction workers going abroad should be given technical training as well as training in the language of that country, so that their efficiency and safety can be ensured. He suggested that on the lines of Ayushman Bharat, private hospitals should be linked to schemes like Employees State Insurance (ESI) so that workers from both organised and unorganised sections can get health facilities.
It was informed in the meeting that 13,809 factories were registered in the state after independence till 2016, while 13,644 new factories have been registered in the last 9 years, which shows an increase of 99%. The Department of Labour has received the status of “Achiever State” in implementation of BRAP recommendations of the Government of India. The Chief Minister appreciated these achievements and described them as remarkable.
