CM Yogi : The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the first convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur as the Chief Guest and presented degrees to the first batch of students and gold medals to the best performing students.
Governor of Uttar Pradesh Smt Anandiben Patel, CM Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of State for Health Smt Anupriya Patel were also present on the occasion.
In his address, the President said AIIMS is a symbol of excellence in medicine, education and research. He appreciated the rapid progress of AIIMS Gorakhpur and the health services being provided by it to eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Nepal. Describing medicine as a medium of service, he appealed to the doctors to work with empathy, dedication and moral values.
The President also said that institutions like AIIMS have an important role to play in promoting medical tourism and technology-based treatments like robotic surgery and AI-based cancer screening reflect India’s progress in this direction.
Governor Smt Anandiben Patel exhorted the students to maintain the spirit of service to the poor and needy.
Welcoming the President, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the establishment of AIIMS as a historic achievement for Purvanchal. He said that the establishment of AIIMS Gorakhpur not only helped in dealing with diseases like encephalitis, but it has also become a big centre of health services. He also highlighted the development and infrastructure expansion of medical education in the region.
Union Minister Anupriya Patel said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the number of AIIMS across the country has increased from 7 to 23 and AIIMS Gorakhpur is proving to be a boon for Purvanchal.
A large number of students, teachers and office staff of the college participated in the programme.
