CM YOGI : In a major step towards making the dairy industry in Uttar Pradesh self-reliant and technologically sound, three dairy plants and one animal feed manufacturing unit will now be operated by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
An important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence, under which the operation of three dairy plants located in Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Kannauj and the animal feed factory of Ambedkar Nagar was handed over to NDDB.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that this partnership is a milestone in making the milk sector of Uttar Pradesh self-reliant, transparent and more beneficial for the farmers. He expressed confidence that the experience of NDDB will bring technical efficiency and business transparency in these units and milk producers will get timely payment, better price and marketing facility.
The Chief Minister said that if the livestock wealth and milk production potential of the state is developed scientifically, then Uttar Pradesh can make a strong mark in dairy production not only in the country but also at the global level.
Lauding women empowerment in the milk sector, he said the participation of women in places like Jhansi, Agra and Gorakhpur was remarkable. At the same time, the policylessness and neglect of the previous governments were cited as the reason for the backwardness of the livestock sector.
The Chief Minister exhorted the PCDDF (Regional Cooperative Dairy Federation) to adopt the “best practices” of NDDB and termed the partnership as a path-breaking step in the milk sector.
Details of the units:
Kanpur Dairy Plant: Built at a cost of ₹160.84 crore, 4 lakh litres / day processing capacity.
Gorakhpur Dairy Plant: Cost of ₹61.80 cr, 1 lakh litre / day capacity.
Kannauj Dairy Plant: Cost of ₹88.05 cr, 1 lakh litres / day capacity.
Ambedkar Nagar Livestock Feed Unit: Built at a cost of ₹18.44 crore, 100 MT / day protein feed production capacity, potential of ₹66.88 lakh profit this year.
The commercial operations of these units were earlier hampered, but with the handing over of operations to NDDB, they will function at full capacity. This will ensure benefit to farmers, better utilisation of resources, reduction in unnecessary expenditure, safety of equipment and participation of local cooperatives.
The Chief Minister also made it clear that under this model, there would be no additional financial burden on the state government, and the benefit of revenue would accrue to the state and farmers alike. This will also generate employment opportunities for the youth.
NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah, while thanking the Chief Minister for the support extended to the World Dairy Summit in 2022, expressed confidence that all these units would emerge as the most profitable and model units of the state.
